Honorary Associate Professor Alan Watson AMNSWIeR PatronAlan Watson has had a long and distinguished academic career and a long-standing affiliation with the NSWIeR. He is current Patron and life member of the IeR. In 2021, Alan was recognised as a Member of the Order of Australia for his distinguished service to education and educational research. He is also the Founding President of the Katoke Trust for Overseas Aid, a grass-roots Christian organisation that provides aid for people irrespective of their race, colour or religion

Ken had a long and distinguised career at the Univerity of Sydney. He trained to be a teacher at Bathurst Teachers College in 1954-5, followed by an appointment to Auburn West Public School where I taught for 6 years while completing a BA degree as an evening student at Sydney University. Graduating BA with Honours in Education in 1962, I spent a year as a tutor in education at Sydney. I proceeded, then, on to the University of Illinois for Masters and PhD studies and, after a superb program of advanced coursework and research training, was appointed to a Lectureship at Sydney University in 1965.

Meeri is currently professor in International and Comparative Education and chairs the funded research group ICER
She lectures on the Doctoral Program, the Master's Program in International and Comparative Education and also in Higher Education Teaching and Learning (CeUL), focusing on international education. Meeri's academic background is international, holding her alma mater and university career in Australia (1990-2010) before arriving at a position in intercultural education at Södertörn University, where she was promoted to full Professor in 2013. She was recruited to Stockholm University in 2015, to contribute to the field of international and comparative education. Associate Professor Ray Debus (d. 2014)

Associate Professor Ray Debus was an esteemed educational psychologist who worked in the Faculty of Education at the University of Sydney from 1958 to 1996. After his retirement, he remained an Honorary Associate in the faculty until permanently retiring in 2009. He dedicated his lifetime work at the University to the advancement of education.
He was a founding member of the Australian Association for Research in Education in 1970 and remained an active member of that association until his death in 2014. The Ray Debus Award for Doctoral Research in Education, which recognises excellence in educational research by doctoral students, was named in his honour. His commitment to high-quality and impactful educational research continues to inspire students and researchers in the field of education. Professor Don Spearitt AM (d. 2014)

Prof Don Spearritt began teaching at Cairns North State School in 1939, then went to Mackay North State School and finally did a stint in the one-teacher Mt Martin State School before enlisting in the RAAF in 1942 and serving on a radar station in New Guinea. After the war he had to choose between being sent to Mt Isa as a primary school teacher or accepting a research position at the Australian Council for Educational Research in Melbourne. He chose Melbourne and as well as work, he also took two degrees by correspondence from the University of Queensland. He was awarded an MA in philosophy in 1949 and then took a Fulbright scholarship to Harvard in 1955.
In 1960, Spearritt became a senior lecturer in education at the University of Sydney and an associate professor in 1964. He was appointed to a new chair in education at the university in 1968. From From the mid-1960s to the mid-1980s, Spearritt also held visiting positions at Harvard, the Educational Testing Service in Princeton, at the Universities of North Carolina and Stockholm, and at the Singapore institute of education. He was appointed a member of the Order of Australia in 1994. |
